Who Am I?

Hello everyone! My name is Dalton Cravens. I am a fourth-year Computer Science major at the University of Florida. I am also perusing a minor in Spanish. I moved a fair bit growing up which has helped me become extremely adaptable to new situations, a skill that I have transformed into a love for learning and exploring new and interesting topics. I actually begun my college experience as an Economics major, but quickly swapped to Computer Science after taking a programming course and falling in love with the depth of knowledge in the digital world. I had a similar experience when I discovered cybersecurity, an area of extreme importance that is extremely relevant in today's digital world.

Now at the end of my college career, I look back fondly at my coursework and experiences that have made me who I am. I go forth into the work place knowing I am prepared for a successful career. I am set to start working for Capgemini, a technology consulting firm, shortly after my graduation as a consultant. I am deeply excited for the opportunity to work on real world projects and work with new emerging technologies.

Outside of academics I am very interested in music. I play the guitar (electric and acoustic) as well as the piano. Recently, I have even begun to get involved in music production which is an incredibly fun and interesting area. I'm also an avid music listener, and thusly want to bring up the final lyric of the song "The End" by The Beatles: "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make". I am strong believer in public good and thus have spent large amounts of time volunteering for organizations such as Habitat for Humanity.

My love of learning also extends to other cultures. Through my Spanish minor I have been able to learn so much about a rich history and culture that I would otherwise be unaware of. The International Scholars Program at UF has also been instrumental in opening the door to various events about other cultures that has expanded my worldview. Overall, I believe a healthy understanding of the cultures around us is incredibly important for the betterment of the world and I am glad I've had the opportunity to explore so much and look forward to exploring more.
